ALS graduate yields almost a kilo of marijuana

AN ALTERNATIVE Learning System (ALS) graduate was arrested by operatives of Carbon Police Station for allegedly having in his possession almost a kilo of dried marijuana leaves.

The suspect was identified as Renzo Medalle Alferez, alias Renz, 23, of Sitio Little Baguio, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City. He was nabbed on El Filibusterismo Street, Barangay Emita, Cebu City around 6:30 p.m. Monday, September 26, 2022.

Police Major Kenneth Albotra, chief of Carbon Police Station, said they conducted the operation after confirming the illegal drug activity of the suspect.

It was learned that the illegal drugs weighing 805 grams with a total value of P96,600 came from Toledo City, midwest Cebu.

The police have already identified the boss of Alferez in the illegal drug trade, who will be the subject in their follow-up operation.

“Naa siyay amo nga naa sa Cebu City in fact mao sad ang atong gi monitor nya ang ilahang source didto sa Toledo City,” Albotra said.

(He has a boss in Cebu City. In fact, we also monitor his source in Toledo City).

The suspect admitted that he was forced to sell marijuana due to unemployment.

Alferez said he was supposed to dispose the seized marijuana within two weeks.

He said his customers are his friends.

The police have noticed that other drug personalities have shifted to selling marijuana as they strengthened their campaign against methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.

Alferez is scheduled to be charged on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, for violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (AYB, TPT)
