I don't throw around words like "insane" lightly, especially when it comes to deals. But this, well, pretty insane.

For a limited time, and while supplies last, new HSN customers can get the Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet (32GB) with extras for $40 when applying promo code HSN2021 at checkout. Regular price at Amazon: $90 without extras. Best price to date at Amazon: $55, again without extras.

Although HSN's product page lists this as the "Fire 8," rest assured it's the Fire HD 8 and the latest-generation version of the tablet.

That means it has a 1,280x800-pixel display (not sky-high resolution, but more than sufficient for 8-inch-tablet tasks), 32GB of expandable storage, front- and rear-facing cameras and a USB-C charging port.

This is a decidedly entertainment-minded device, one that's great for games, books, movies and the like. But you can use it for things like e-mail, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok and YouTube. It also supports hands-free Alexa voice commands.

The Fire HD 8 isn't the fastest tablet on the planet, but it's certainly fast enough for the aforementioned apps. As for the cameras, they're just 2-megapixels apiece, — definitely not framed-photography-friendly. For Zoom calls and such, though? They're fine.

HSN also gives you vouchers for a custom (!) case from Caseable and something called Family Tablet Essentials 11, which is good for subscriptions to a quartet of services (including Family Cookbook Project Premium). The case is the standout extra here: You can personalize it with text, a photo or the like. And it would normally cost you $30 all by itself.

I've long considered the Fire HD 8 one of the best tablet deals, period. That was based on the $90 regular price and frequent $65-ish sale price. But $40? You heard it here: That's insane.
