Fans were treated to three new Pokémon on Thursday (June 2), but one budding fan-favorite hogged the attention of an unexpected party: the official Among Us Twitter page.

“HELLO LECHONK I LOVE YOU,” the page commented in the Twitter announcement after saying it would "die for" for the chonky creature.

The mobile game’s Twitter admins are among the handful who showed love for the hog-based Pokémon. Together with the Grass-type Smolive and Electric-type Pawmi, based around olives and mice, respectively, they will be in-game rival Nemona’s three Pokémon. Their online debut coincided with the release of the second trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

These two are reported to be the first free-to-roam entries in the franchise, and will be the first installments of the ninth generation of Pokémon games.

According to Lechonk’s description, “it may appear fat at first glance, but in reality, the Pokémon’s body is mostly muscle built by constantly walking around in search of food.” The game’s website would also describe Lechonk as having a powerful sense of smell and having even an aroma that buzzes bug Pokémon away.

Besides fan art pieces and memes, other netizens quickly took to social media to praise Lechonk’s cute and cuddly look. While the likes of Facebook user Alexis Kelley (who commented in the official announcement) hoping that evolutions won’t ruin Lechonk’s design, John Deary, another user, said that it is “the kinda Pokémon with such a great name you don’t need to nickname ‘em.”

Speaking of looks, other users such as Darsan Solomon and Brandon Espinoza, respectively compared Lechonk’s design to those in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Maple Story and the 2003 adventure game The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Filipino fans also noted how Lechonk may have gotten its name from “lechon.” The latter is a popular dish in Spain, Portugal, and the Philippines (where it is a celebratory staple) that involves a roasted suckling pig. This led to jokes involving the name itself and humorous guesses as to what other pork dishes Lechonk may “evolve” into.

Lechonk, Smolive, and Pawmi are not the only new Pokémon set to debut. While starters like Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly were revealed last February 2022, legendaries Koraidon and Miraidon were announced just this Wednesday.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be released on November 18, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
