The newest singing competition, TV5's "Kanta Pilipinas" which will be aired starting today, Feb. 9, on TV5, is another proof that we are, indeed, a musical nation, what with the singing prowess that the 24 finalists will be showcasing. It will be a difficult task for the judges (Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and Ms. Lani Misalucha) to choose who will emerge as winner who will bring home R1 million and a recording contract, in addition, of course, to the musical stardom that he/she is bound to achieve.
Thousands auditioned for "Kanta Pilipinas" and serving as audition judges were some of the country's renowned people in the music industry: Vehnee Saturno, Jamie Rivera, Jimmy Antiporda, Erickson Raymundo of Cornerstone, Maristel Fernandez, Bituin Escalante and Arnee Hidalgo. Host of the singing competition is Rico Blanco.
"Kanta Pilipinas," line-produced by Marvin Agustin, with Jimmy Antiporda as musical director, has for finalists 5az1, Adrian Tabaldo, Allan Gonzales, Allison Gonzales, Chadleen Lacdo-O, Daniel Drospe and JB Landrito, Dea Formelliza, Esther Martinez, Ferns Tosco, Gian Carlo Baldonido, Gregory Llamoso, Haizel Fernando, Isaiah Antonio, Jacob Gayanelo, Janeth Gomez, Jennifer Maravilla, Nicole and Carlo David, Pia Diamante, Raz Mendoza, Ricky Deloviar, Rochelle Merced, Thara Jordana, Timothy Pavino and Zari Bilon.
By the way, the theme song of "Kanta Pilipinas" is sung by no less than our very own international star Ms. Lea Salonga.
