The new Apple Watch made its debut during Apple's Time Flies event on Tuesday (September 15).
Alongside the watch, the presentation also saw the unveiling of the new iPad 8th Generation and the iPad Air 4, however there were no new iPhone announcement after the company previously confirmed its new phones would be delayed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Apple Watch Series 6 has a number of new features that will help track users' overall health, but with COVID-19 still at the forefront of the world's health concerns, top among the features of the new Watch is its ability to monitor when you wash your hands.
The Watch will take note of when you last washed your hands and also encourage you to keep washing for the recommended 20 seconds.
Other innovative new health benefits include the Watch's ability to measure your blood oxygen levels in just 15 seconds with the use of both red and infrared light.
"Apple Watch Series 6 completely redefines what a watch can do," said Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer. "With powerful new features, including a Blood Oxygen sensor and app, Apple Watch becomes even more indispensable by providing further insight into overall well-being."
The company also said it will be partnering with health networks for large studies on asthma and cardiac health, using the blood oxygen measurement feature. Apple is also working on testing to see if the Watch will one day be able to detect if the wearer has COVID-19.
The Apple Watch Series 6 also features a sleep app which uses motion to track how much sleep you get, as well as a new Fitness app which will include specially-tailored workouts.
And for the fashion conscious among us, the Apple Watch Series 6 also has a new solo loop strap, giving you even more strap options in terms of colours, design, and materials.
The Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS) has a starting price of £379 and Apple Watch Series 6 (GPS + Cellular) starts at £479. It is available to order now from apple.com and will be available from Friday, September 18.
