Aquino to monitor developments on New Year revelry

President Benigno Aquino III will monitor developments on the New Year revelry Monday, even as he will spend the New Year with his sisters in Manila.

Aquino will stay at the Bahay Pangarap near Malacañang to keep himself updated on developments, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported Monday.

Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras was quoted in the report as saying Aquino has customarily welcomed the New Year with his sisters.

Last week, Aquino took four days off for a vacation in his home province of Tarlac and in Baguio City.

He returned to Metro Manila Saturday and led Rizal Day rites in Manila

and had a briefing on New Year preparations on Sunday.

On Sunday, Aquino ordered concerned government agencies to crack down on illegal firecrackers and make sure there will be fewer revelry-related casualties

this year.

Aquino issued the order after getting a briefing on preparedness measures from the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the interior and health departments. —KG, GMA News
