AN ARGUMENT over passengers drove a tricycle driver to maul and stab to death his fellow driver in Sitio Baybay, Barangay Poblacion, Toledo City on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

SSgt. Fredenil Cabañero, desk officer of the Toledo City Police Station, identified the victim as Jophel Placibe Basilan, a resident of Sitio Bawd, Barangay Magdugo in the same city.

Witnesses told police that they saw Basilan was arguing with fellow driver, Jajan Alferez, 41, around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cabañero said Alferez had accused Basilan of taking his passengers days before the incident. This irked Basilan, and an argument happened between the two of them.

Their argument was reignited on Tuesday when Alferez caught Basilan taking his passengers again.

Out of anger, Alferez took out a large piece of wood and struck Basilan several times in the head.

As Basilan was lying on the ground, Alferez then took out a screwdriver he was keeping in his motorcycle and stabbed the victim with it several times before fleeing.

Basilan was immediately brought to the Toledo City District Hospital but he eventually died of his wounds soon after admission.

Following the incident, local police launched a manhunt against Alferez.

Meanwhile, Basilan’s family told the police that they will file a murder case against Alferez.
