Arizona Man Makes Best Possible Use of Baking Hot Day

It really was baking hot in the Phoenix area on May 14 this year, and Gilbert man Joe Brown really made the most of it: sticking some cake mix into his stiflingly hot car to see what would happen.

With temperatures inside the car passing 200 degrees Fahrenheit, Brown’s idea proved inspired, and resulted in a perfect chocolate cake baking itself inside his car over a couple of hot afternoon hours.

“My car smells like a bakery and this cake looks so good,” he said. “This cake was a 10 out of 10. I would definitely recommend.”

The National Weather Service said temperatures in Phoenix reached 104 degrees on May 14. Credit: Joe Brown via Storyful

JOE BROWN: Today, we're going to see if it's hot enough to bake a chocolate cake inside of my car in the Arizona heat. And if this works, my car is going to smell amazing. Inside of my car, it's over 180 degrees. I'm going to leave it there for a couple of hours. Come back to see the results.

Earlier today, I left a cake inside of my car. And about two hours later, it was over 210 degrees in my car. My car is smelling really good. It smells like a bakery and this cake looks so good. And you already know we got to decorate it with the white frosting and the sprinkles. And I want to say a huge thank you to you guys for 2 million followers. I appreciate each and every one of you guys and this cake was a 10 out of 10, would definitely recommend.
