Around 2K workers in Region 7 with compensation claims receive P44.6M in settlement

CLOSE to 2,000 workers in Central Visayas received P44.6 million in work-related settlement under the labor department's settlement program in 2022.

In a statement issued by the Department of Labor and Employment Central Visayas (Dole 7), 1,983 workers across five of its field offices benefited from the settled requests for assistance (RFAs) filed under the Single Entry Approach (SEnA) program.

“These accomplishments are credited to the settled requests for assistance or RFAs that were received and handled by the different field offices and divisions of Dole 7. We have our Single Entry Assistance Desk Officers or SEADOs, who ensured the disposition of RFAs received not later than the 30 calendar days process cycle time,” said Dole 7 Director Lilia Estillore.

The Tri-City Field Office settled the largest RFAs, awarding P19 million to 880 workers from the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, and Lapu-Lapu, while the Cebu Provincial Field Office awarded P7.6 million to 286 workers.

The Negros Oriental Field Office awarded P10.7 million to 449 workers, while the Bohol Provincial Field Office awarded P6.9 million to 368 workers.

Estillore said the RFAs were settled in an average of six days.

Republic Act 10396 institutionalized Dole’s SEnA program, providing “an administrative approach to a speedy, impartial, inexpensive and accessible settlement procedure for all issues/complaints arising from employer-employee relations to prevent them from escalating into full blown disputes.”

Under this approach, “all labor and employment disputes shall undergo a 30-day mandatory conciliation-mediation process to effect settlement among the contending parties.”

"We want to raise awareness among our customers that all employer-employee-related concerns and disputes would really have to go through this mechanism first before anyone could file a formal complaint," Estillore said. (PR, EHP)
