THE Asturias Corn Ranchers picked up their first win in the Pilipinas Super League 21-Under VisMin Leg in style, coming all the way back from a huge 27-point deficit to stun the Bogo City Bugoys, 77-71, on Saturday night at the Lawaan 1 gym in Talisay City.
The Bogoys were hellbent on getting their first win of the season and led by 15 after the first canto, 26-11. Bogo City kept the pressure on and extended their lead to 27, 40-13, after a layup by Burj Lapu-os.
Bogo City was still up by 24, 62-38, with two minutes remaining in the third canto when Asturias began their incredible comeback. AJ Sacayan and Aeron Aparicio scored the Corn Ranchers’ last 11 points during that stretch to trim the deficit to 15, 47-62, heading to the fourth.
With their confidence high, the Corn Ranchers kept on plugging away and tied the game up at 71-all after two free-throws by Aparicio with 1:06 remaining. John Diamante then gave Asturias the lead at 74-71 with a booming three-pointer from the corner with 51 ticks left.
Bogo City still had a shot but a steal and a layup by Asturias big man Den Orgong on the Bugoys’ inbound play sealed the remarkable victory for the Corn Ranchers.
Orgong had an incredible night, putting up 19 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and six blocks. Aparicio also had 19 points while Sacayan had 18 markers as Asturias moved to 1-4.
Bogo City dropped to 0-5.
Meanwhile, the IBACM Bukidnon Cowboys dropped the Lapu-Lapu City Pantum, 74-61, to move to 4-1. The Cowboys pulled away from the Pantum in the third, using a 27-16 blast in that stretch to turn a slim 37-34 lead into a sizable 64-50 lead.
It was all Bukidnon from that point onwards as they started the fourth with an 8-2 run capped off by a three-pointer by Dwynn Dacutanan for their largest lead of the match at 21, 73-52.
The win pushed the Cowboys’ record to 4-1, good for a tie with the Sealcor Cagayan de Oro and the Davao Occidental Dreamers.
Raul Gentallan exploded for 30 points to lead the way for the Cowboys. Jayvee Pascua also had a solid outing with 17 points, three rebounds, three assists, and five steals.
