Ateneo defeats SCSIT in MYBL’s U18

THE Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Juniors B got the job done as they defeated the Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT), 51-38, in the Under-18 Division 1 A of the MVP Sports Foundation Youth Basketball League (MYBL) Cebu at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball court on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2019.

Ateneo de Cebu dictated the game’s tempo early as they got off to a 28-14 lead at halftime and never looked back to register the victory.

Pol Astillero led Ateneo de Cebu with 11 points and five rebounds while Uriel Avila added nine markers. Joseph Dytian also chipped in eight even as Marcus Fuentes fired in seven points.

In other Division 1 A games, the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) clobbered Day-As, 75-48, in the Under-15 age group. USPF was particularly merciless in the second period where they held Day-As to a mere two points while punching in 19 to open up a 39-14 halftime lead.

Lorence Garcia shone for USPF as he tallied a double-double performance of 22 points and 11 rebounds, while James Bongo had 17 markers and seven rebounds. Jonathan Moses also had 11 points and five assists.

In the Under 12 division, Ateneo de Cebu emerged victorious over the undermanned University of San Carlos (USC) North, 46-36. Playing with just seven players, USC hung tough and held an 18-12 lead at halftime but Ateneo de Cebu surged in front, 27-24, at the end of the third and kept on going until the final buzzer.

Kyean Gubat led Ateneo de Cebu with 14 points while Keenan Rasmo and Xisco Cuyos chipped in eight markers apiece.

The loss spoiled the tremendous performance of Ezekiel Jakosalem who had 21 points and 16 rebounds.

Punta Princesa also routed the Green Rose, 38-19. Hamza delos Angeles led the winning side with 11 points, six rebounds and five steals. (JNP)
