Backhoe operator finds body in vacant lot in Mambaling

A BACKHOE operator found a body that was dumped in a vacant lot in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022.

Christopher Ace Go, driver of backhoe and an employee of the Department of Engineering and Public Works of Cebu City Hall, said he discovered the body of a naked man, aged between 30 to 40 years old, lying on his back in a bushy area.

Go said he was cleaning the area of weeds using a backhoe when he discovered the body nearby.

"Abi gani nako nga maniken sir, ako gipanid-an wala man mo lihok kay ug nilihok pa to, midagan nato, mao na nga ako nang gitawagan akong labaw kay aron i-report sa mga pulis," Go said.

(I thought it was a mannequin sir. I first observed him but he was not moving anymore and did not run away, that’s why I called my superior to have the incident reported to the police.)

Patrolman Glendale Cabañero, investigator of Mambaling Police Station-11, said the victim was already in a state of decomposition when they arrived at the scene.

The victim remained unidentified as of Thursday afternoon, November 17, 2022.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) also came to perform an autopsy on the body to determine the cause of his death.

Nobody in the area, however, was able to identify the body.

The Mambaling police said they will first identify the victim and get his personal background so they can proceed with their investigation.

Soco team leader Police Lieutenant Reynaldo Ramos believed that the victim had been dead for more than two days.

Ramos said the victim had a wound under his left armpit, but they still have to determine if it is inflicted by a gun or a knife. (BBT, TPT)
