Balamban police raid ‘tigbakay,’ nab 8 men

UNABLE to outrun police who were hot on their heels, eight men were taken into custody in Sitio Kamanggahan 1, Barangay Buanoy in the western town of Balamban, Cebu on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11, 2022.

Their crime? They were allegedly involved in an illegal cockfight called tigbakay.

The suspects were identified as Erwin Pineda Moncano, 36; Edito Pardillo Puentegra, 60; Ruel Vitor Magale, 50; Feliciano Angcos Perficio, 44; Roberto Tapia Arañez, 41; Liberato Amarado Pasaporte, 67; Domingo Baraga Aligado, 62; and Rene Palen Sevilla, 31.

Their companion Ricky Torno was light on his feet and managed to escape.

Balamban police conducted the raid after they received information that illegal cockfights were held in the area on Sundays.

Seized during the operation were two roosters, gambling paraphernalia and P830 in cash believed to be bets, among others.

The eight men who were arrested will be charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602 for illegal gambling.
