Bamboo Bay denounces insinuations of links to lawyer’s ambush killing

THE Bamboo Bay Condominium Corp. (BBCC) denounced any insinuations linking them to the death of human rights lawyer Rex Jose Mario Fernandez who was ambushed in his car on August 26, 2021.

Fernandez, who was on a passenger seat of his car, succumbed to gunshot wounds in different parts of his body during the attack in the afternoon of August. 26 at the corner of Duterte Street and Good Shepherd Road in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City.

It can be recalled that on August 13, Fernandez staged a hunger strike after the BBCC cut off his water supply on August 11 for his refusal to pay his condominium dues since he started staying at the property four years ago.

Fernandez’s hunger strike lasted for almost a week.

He stopped when his doctor advised him to do so for health reasons.

In a statement, BBCC clarified that Fernandez was among 20 homeowners whose water supply was cut off and they were not singling out the lawyer.

“While he recently staged a hunger strike over unresolved issues, we already started a dialogue moving forward,” the BBCC said in a statement.

The BBCC said they denounce any insinuations linking Fernandez’s death to the issue with them.

BBCC said they were also shocked upon learning about the brazen killing of Fernandez.

“This is a horrific and senseless act. We express our deepest condolences to his family,” the BBCC said.

“We join the call for justice and echo the cry of the family of Fernandez that justice will not be served until the people responsible for his killing are punished,” BBCC added. (KFD)
