ROLAND Bantilan and Ram Gonzales clinched the Friday Group Bowler of the Year (BOY) crowns after ruling their divisions in the Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba) Friday Group BOY Tournament on Friday night, Nov. 8, 2019, at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center.
Bantilan became the men’s BOY after topping the culminating tournament with a total score of 985, while Gonzales came up with a score of 826 to win the women’s title.
Bantilan wasted no time as he grabbed the lead from the get-go, scoring an impressive 243 in the opening game to build an early lead in the five-game series.
The second round was a complete contrast for Bantilan as he struggled with a dismal score of 150, but he was quick to recover in the third and fourth rounds with 213 and 217 before capping it off with 162 in the final round.
Senior bowlers Fred Torrequemada and Marvin Sevilla finished at second and third places with scores of 933 and 889, respectively. Torrequemada fired scores of 173, 179, 164, 192 and 200, while Sevilla had 179, 191, 171, 131 and 192.
Cetba vice president Docdoc Gothong scored 881 and Terrence Williams fired 880 to complete this year’s Friday Group top five male bowlers.
In the women’s division, Gonzales won the annual championship with a total score of 826 built in rounds of 135, 158, 199, 186 and 148.
Lucy Lanceta scored 799 good for second place and Ester Francisco had 765 for third place, while Lyn Oka and Crystilyn Tan scored 761 and 750 to complete the Top 5 on the women’s side. / RSC
