Barangay captains receive P200,000 aid from Capitol; ABC presidents get P2M

HUNDREDS of barangay captains who attended the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas yearend general assembly received P200,000 worth of projects each as their early Christmas gifts from the Capitol.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia also promised to release P2 million worth of infrastructure projects to each of the Association of Barangay Captain (ABC) presidents who were present during the event held from November 29 to 30 at a hotel in Lahug, Cebu City.

The Cebu Provincial Information Office said that at least 880 barangay officials joined the event.

Garcia said she was elated by what the ABC presidents did in the previous distribution of financial assistance during the 2019 general assembly as they used the fund for projects that would last long, such as the construction of ABC buildings.

Garcia said that rather than spending money to buy items like office supplies, monoblock chairs, tents, kitchen utensils, among others, infrastructure projects would last long and all the constituents can benefit from it.

"Pagka-nindot ba nga ang kwarta, anha nato gastuon sa imprastraktura. Kana bang molungtad, nga mahinumduman ta ba... ang gasunod nato, ang anak sa atong mga anak, ang apo sa atong mga apo, naa gihapon makit-an, mahinumduman ta," said Garcia.

(How nice if the money would be spent for infrastructure. Those (projects) hat would last long and will we be remembered by the next generation from the children of our children until the grandchildren of our grandchildren, it still exists, we will be remembered.)

The event was spearheaded by ABC Federation President and ex-officio member of the Provincial Board Celestino Martinez III, with Governor Garcia as the guest speaker. (ANV, TPT)
