Barangay worker arrested for selling drugs

CLOSE to P13 million worth of illegal drugs was recovered from a 52-year-old barangay worker in Tisa, Cebu City on Thursday night, Jan. 2, 2019.

Operatives of the Guadalupe and Labangon Police Stations arrested Nicanor Cabornay during a buy-bust conducted inside his house in Sitio Capaculan, Barangay Tisa, Cebu City.

Cabornay reportedly works for the village as a garbage collector.

Police Capt. Janelito Marquez, Guadalupe police chief, told reporters that their subject was supposed to be Cabornay’s nephew, identified as a certain “Opong.” But Opong reportedly evaded arrest when he left Cabornay’s house just before police could get there.

Marquez said that during their operation, it was Cabornay who handed the illegal drugs to their operative.

Upon his arrest, Cabornay yielded around two kilograms of suspected shabu.

Marquez said Cabornay could be considered as a “city-level high-value drug target” due to the high amount of drugs he was carrying.

But Cabornay, in a separate interview, denied that he was selling drugs.

Though he admitted that his nephew was involved in illegal drugs, Cabornay said he never involved himself in illegal activities. (BBT / JKV)
