Barili JO worker to face dismissal after failing surprise drug test

ONE out of the more than 400 job order employees hired by the Municipal Government of Barili, southwest Cebu tested positive for illegal drug use during a surprise drug test conducted by town officials on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

A notice for termination is set to be issued against the job order employee, who is assigned in the town's Social Welfare Office.

In a statement sent to SunStar Cebu on Friday, August 4, the Municipal Government led by Mayor Pablo John “John-John” Garcia IV conducted the surprise drug test on its 464 job order employees assigned in the executive and legislative offices at their town hall.

The Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Office (Madao) led by its head, Mary Jane Pañares, conducted the surprise drug test at the town hall's conference room.

The drug test is in line with Garcia's thrust to maintain a drug-free workplace and to make Barili a drug-free town.

When Garcia assumed as mayor in July, he explicitly stated before his employees that illegal drug use in the workplace will be dealt with accordingly.

Drug-cleared barangays

At present, 21 of the 42 barangays of the town were already declared drug-cleared.

Among the efforts done in order to achieve a drug-free municipality status is to maintain a drug-free workplace by conducting periodic drug tests to all town employees. (JKV, PR)
