Basilan Peace Riders add new players in bid to rule VisMin Cup

The Basilan Peace Riders are going all out to rule the upcoming Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup as they signed up several new players to beef up their roster.

The Jumbo Plastic-supported squad has tapped the services of former Makati Super Crunch stud Jong Baloria, ex-Manila Stars ace Chris Bitoon, burly forward Jay-R Taganas, former pro Michael Mabulac and Stephen Siruma as the team moves closer to their debut in the Mindanao division this May.

Baloria previously played for NLEX in the PBA and recently, Makati in the MPBL where he averaged 12.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists. Bitoon, meanwhile, was a member of the All-MPBL First Team in the 2019 Datu Cup, after which, he was drafted by Blackwater in the PBA Draft. Bitoon averaged 12.5 points, as well as 4.5 rebounds, and 5.7 assists, and 1.8 steals in 25.2 minutes in his last season with Manila.

Taganas is a wide-bodied bruiser, who played for Bulacan in the recent MPBL Lakan Cup, where he normed 5.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists. Siruma was Taganas’ teammate on the Bulacan squad where he averaged 8.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

Finally, Mabulac is a former pro who was with San Miguel for three seasons. He played for Bacoor in the MPBL last season where he averaged 9.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. (JNP)
