Bataan Freeport Opening New Facilities

FREEPORT AREA OF Bataan - A dilapidated hotel here will be renovated while another multi-million petroleum investment company opened up its facility inside the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB), giving more job opportunities to the people of Bataan.

Gov. Enrique "Tet" Garcia said the Hilltop Hotel, once the premier hotel here but was neglected during the time of the defunct Bataan Economic Zone until it went bankrupt, will be remodeled and renovated through the Public, Private Partnership (PPP) scheme of the government.

FAB Chairman and administrator lawyer Deo Custodio said the One Source Petroleum Marketing Corporation recently opened its new gasoline station, called One Source at FAB.

"This is another exciting development at the FAB for it opens much needed employment opportunities as well as answers the needs of our locators," said Custodio.

The setting up of the gasoline station, Custodio said, is part of the P150-million land development project that will also bring in a number of restaurants, an atrium and a hotel fronting the magnificent view of the FAB coastline. Named as the Cosmopolitan of Mariveles, this port side development will also boast of a ferry terminal with promenades open to FAB denizens.

Early this year, a new branch of the popular Chinese restaurant Hap Chan also opened at the FAB. "There is a good investment climate here. Because this is a Freeport, there's a lot of tax privilege we can enjoy. And there's good support from Congressman Abet S. Garcia, author and father of FAB law, and Mayor Jesse Concepcion of Mariveles town," said Samuel Lee, owner of Hap Chan FAB.

Under the scheme, the Hilltop hotel will be patterned after a first-class hotel in Leyte that has become familiar and the favorite hang out of foreigners due to its historic past being once the residence of Gen. Douglas Mc Arthur during his famous landing in Leyte to liberate the Philippines.

Earlier, Pompil Corsame, president of the Export Processing Zone chamber of Exporters and Manufacturers (EPZCEM) and Frank Sauceda, president of the Luen Thai Philippines, sought the establishment of hotels and restaurants inside FAB to accommodate the growing needs of personnel and workers here. Luen Thai alone will recruit at least 10,000 personnel and workers for its textile manufacturing firm here.

The FAB has been the investment destination of choice of foreign and local companies since its creation two years ago. These companies created job opportunities for Bataeños while enjoying the superior incentives that the FAB offers.

Twenty Oaks Duty Free and Hypermart, another business venture of Lee, will soon open at the FAB.

The FAB is set to define the new model for global freeport Asia, added Custodio.
