'Batman: Arkham Origins' announced for October 2013

Confirming rumors about a new Batman game, Warner Bros. announced that October's "Batman: Arkham Origins" will be set before "Arkham Asylum" and "Arkham City," coming to home console, PC and handhelds in October, but developed by a studio other than series creator Rocksteady.

It will be the second Batman title from young studio Warner Bros. Montreal, which had overseen the Wii U version of "Batman: Arkham City."

The game's prequel status means Batman will sport a more youthful appearance and, with eight assassins on his tail, will be meeting and beating a selection of Bat-characters for the first time -- including Deathstroke the Terminator.

Destined for Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 3 and Wii U, "Batman: Arkham Origins" will be accompanied by a Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita game called "Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate" due on the same day, October 25.

While the Warner Bros. Montreal outpost is handling the main game, "Blackgate" goes to Armature, credited with work on the Vita version of the "Metal Gear Solid HD Collection" in 2011; flagship "Batman: Arkham" studio is presumably working away on something secret for the next generation of PlayStation and Xbox machines.
