Work begins on SRP rotunda

THE construction of a rotunda at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Cebu City has started, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways in Central Visayas (DPWH 7).

DPWH 7 Director Edgar Tabacon said they already received funds for the widening of a one-kilometer road near the SM Seaside City Cebu.

“For 2022 or this year, we have an allocation of P250 million. The scope of the project involves road widening because we cannot immediately construct a circle in the middle of the road. So we have to widen our CSCR (Cebu South Coastal Road) along the seaside and mountain side to accommodate the proposed rotunda,” Tabacon said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

The total estimated cost of the rotunda construction has been set at P600 million.

Tabacon said the rest of the amount needed for the project’s completion will be included in the DPWH 7 budget request for next year, 2023.

Once done, motorists will no longer have to use the designated u-turn viaducts at the SRP to go to their destinations.
