MARK Bernaldez will be fighting his third straight fight in the United States since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in 2020.
Bernaldez takes on Mexican veteran Hector Ruben Suarez in an eight-rounder in M&R Boxing Promotions’ “2021 Got Talent XI” show in Medley, Florida, USA.
The 26-year-old Bernaldez is 1-1 since boxing promoters have been promoting fights with strict guidelines inside a bubble.
Bernaldez fought one of his biggest fights of his career against world-rated Albert Bell on July 2, 2020 in a Top Rank-promoted show in Las Vegas. He lost to Bell via a one-sided unanimous decision.
Bernaldez, who trains under the tutelage of Cuban coach Moro Fernandez in Miami, bounced back with a third round stoppage win over Julian Aristule on Oct. 17, 2020 in Miami.
Suarez should be a good activity fight for Bernaldez, who’s looking to break into the super featherweight world rankings.
The 26-year-old Suarez dropped eight of his last nine contests. He, however, has fought the likes of former world title challenger Denis Shafikov, Jayson Velez, Hector Tanajara, Adam Lopez and Antonio Lozada Torres.
Suarez’s last win was in 2017, a unanimous decision victory over former World Boxing Council (WBC) Fecombox super featherweight champion Sebastian Maldonado.
Bernaldez is 21-4 with 15 knockouts, while Suarez is 12-12-2 with six knockouts.
The main event features Melvin Lopez (24-1, 15 KOs) against Carlos Sardinez (16-4, 2 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) Latino bantamweight belt.
