FORMER ALA Boy Mark Bernaldez is in for a tough fight as he takes on Mexican journeyman Juan Kantun in an eight-round contest on July 10, 2021 (PH time) at the Airport Hilton in Miami, Florida, USA.
Bernaldez tipped the scales at 129.8 pounds, while Kantun weighed in a few pounds heavier at 131.6 pounds.
The 27-year-old Bernaldez, now based in Miami, is looking to extend his winning streak to three by beating Kantun. He scored back-to-back stoppage wins over Julian Aristule and Hector Suarez.
The 33-year-old Kantun is currently on a losing streak of seven straight bouts. His last victory was against former North American Boxing Federation flyweight titlist Faustino Capul by unanimous decision in 2013. Kantun, however, has faced the likes of Roman Gonzalez, David Sanchez, Rocky Fuentes, Omar Soto and Jesus Iribe.
Bernaldez is 22-4 with 16 knockouts, while Kantun is 21-11-3 with 15 knockouts.
On the other hand, Filipino-American Austin Dulay won’t be seeing action on July 17.
Dulay pulled out of his interim World Boxing Association lightweight fight with Rolando Romero in the undercard of the Showtime-televised show between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castaño after suffering a knee injury in training.
The 25-year-old Dulay, born in the US to a Filipino father and an Italian mother, is 14-2 with 10 knockouts. (EKA)
