Bethesda VP: 'We're not developing for Wii U right now'

In news that may disappoint Wii U owners looking to get more third-party games for their system, Joystiq has reported that gaming company Bethesda vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines told them during the recently-concluded QuakeCon that "none of the games we've announced are being developed for the Wii U, so it's guaranteed that none of those games are coming to Wii U. Will any future ones come out? I can't say for sure, in our near-term focus it's not on our radar."

He goes on to say that the issue is hardware-related, making mention that Bethesda aims to "make the games that we want to make, on whatever platforms will support them as developed."

Bethesda has, however, showcased The Elder Scrolls Online, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and The Evil Within during the yearly QuakeCon event.

The successor to the wildly popular Wii, the Wii U hasn't been the runaway success it's forebear was, with figures showing flagging sales for the console. Bethesda isn't the first third-party game developer to show reservations about developing for the console albeit for other reasons.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot went on record weeks ago to say that their Wii U-exclusive title, ZombiU, was not profitable at all, which led them to decide that another of their console-exclusive titles, Rayman Legends, will now see a multi-platform release." — TJD, GMA News
