Binay admits aspiring presidency in 2016

There are still over four years left in President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's term but Vice President Jejomar Binay is already eyeing the land's top post.

Binay, who defeated Aquino's running mate Mar Roxas in the 2010 polls, admitted Monday his eyes is set on a higher goal.

"Well, uulit-ulitin ko lang ha, ayaw kong mabansagang hipokrito. Aaminin ko, na ako talaga ay nag-aaspire na maging kandidato bilang pangulo sa 2016," Binay told reporters in an ambush interview at the Cybersecurity Forum at the National Defense College of the Philippines.

Binay however clarified he's not too keen to talk about the 2016 presidential elections yet because he still needs to work as Vice President.

"Pero, pagdidiinan ko lang, saka na natin pag-usapan yan. Ang kailangan ngayon ay magtrabaho ako, merong iniatang sa aking trabaho si Pangulong Noynoy na dapat mangyari dito sa kanyang administrasyon," Binay said.

Binay also acknowledged PDP-Laban's support.

"Well, it follows naman. After all Chairman ako nung party," said Binay.

"But if there’s one thing na I can take pride to tell you, hindi ako political butterfly. Yung ups and downs of our party, pinagtatawanan yung aming party, nandun parin ako sa party namin, I never abandoned our party," he added.

Last week, Binay said in a separate interview he's already forming up a Senatorial slate for the 2013 Senatorial polls, which might include resigned Senator Miguel Zubiri.

"Ginagayakgayak pa. Pagka dumating ang hinog na panahon, titignan natin ang magiging itsura ng senatorial slate," he said.
