Vice President Jejomar Binay on Wednesday defended President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III against insinuations that he is sleeping on the job.

"Tama naman na. Tigilan niyo na yung ating Presidente," Binay told reporters in a chance interview at the Chamber of Thrift Banks convention in Makati.

Binay said he could not imagine that the President isn't working.

"Can you imagine that the President e di nagtatrabaho? Siguro naman kahit ang mga barangay captain nagtatrabaho di ba?," he said.

Previously it was Senate president Juan Ponce Enrile who advised the president to just 'laugh off' 'Noynoying' claims, saying that every politician has a critic.

'Noynoying' is a term coined by youth protesters, as a means to protest Aquino's supposed inaction in several social issues such as increasing prices of fuel, state of education, among others. 'Noynoying' is also associated with idling on the job or simply doing nothing.

Palace meanwhile shrugged off these criticisms, noting that the government won't let such issues dampen their spirits.

"Other countries would see our economic indicators and that's the reason why you see a lot of foreign investors coming in," Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.

Lacierda said Aquino himself isn't affected and doesn't personally take offense in 'Noynoying' comments.

"The best evidence is that the President is answering you straight and that's his style. He doesn?t take things personally," Lacierda added.

"Alam niyang may magbabatikos. Kasama po 'yan sa trabaho and somebody who is in public service should learn how to have what we call in law 'pachyderm skin' kasi talagang may babanat at may babanat sa'yo." he added.
