MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed a P1-billion tax case against the exclusive franchisee of Dunkin’ Donuts in the country.

According to the BIR, Golden Donuts Incorporated misdeclared their 2017 income, prompting the tax bureau to charge them with P1.1-billion in taxes including interests.

President Rodrigo Duterte already stated last year that Dunkin’ Donuts has P1.5 billion back taxes.

However, the BIR said that the filing of the complaint is a result of their investigation and has nothing to do with the president’s pronouncements.

“Popular or not, basta mayroon pong violation, we file appropriate cases (Popular or not, as long as there is a violation, we file appropriate cases),” said BIR Deputy Commissioner Marissa Cabreros. — UNTV News & Rescue
