TWO fires hit separate firms in the cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu just before 2019 formally ends.
In Cebu City, an early afternoon blaze damaged a warehouse owned by a taxi company in Sitio Langob, Barangay Kalunasan on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 31, 2019.
Personnel from the Cebu City Fire Department received the distress call at around 3 p.m.
The fire reportedly occurred at the warehouse owned by Spider Taxi Company.
With the fire increasing in strength, fire personnel to declare the blaze under second alarm, which prompted other fire units to help in their work.
It was eventually place under control just 39 minutes after.
Fire investigators are still trying to find out what caused the blaze.
While at 6:00 p.m., another fire occurred at one of the buildings situated at the staffhouse of the Rusley Sales Corporation in Barangay Buaya, Lapu- Lapu City.
The fire destroyed two rooms and damaged another.
Fire Officer 1 Jessabelle Brillo of the Lapu-Lapu City Fire District told SunStar Cebu that they received the alarm at around 6:25 p.m.
The fire was eventually placed under control an hour later.
Luckily, the fire was not able to spread to nearby buildings due to the efforts of fire personnel and workers at the compound.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Hadji Ludin Samonte, the investigator on the scene, said they suspected that the fire may have been electrical in nature and may have been caused by an abandoned device inside the staff house.
But Samonte said they still need to conduct a deeper investigation on the fire as there was no one inside the staffhouse at the time of the incident.
The fire destroyed an estimated P120,000 worth of properties.
No one was hurt nor killed during the fire.(BBT/NDT/JKV)
