This initiative is in line with the government's Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).
DepEd project development officer Sheila Flores says the program is open for students with passing grades during the last school term attended. To qualify, his or her parents' combined annual net income must not exceed P143,000.
Qualified students will aged 15-25 years old will be employed for 40 days and will be paid the minimum daily wage in which 60 percent will be shouldered by DepEd and 40 percent will be shouldered by DOLE.
"We try to match the qualifications of the students to the DepEd offices who request for trainees. Example, if the trainee is an engineering student, we endorse him or her to the DepEd Engineering Department," Flores said.
Screening of applicants started on March 28 and will end on April 9. This program is also open for the out-of-school-youths (OSYs). Aside from the above requirements, they need to submit a certificate of good moral character issued by their respective barangays.
Qualified students will have their orientation on April 13 and will have their first day at work on April 14. Applicants can check the DepEd website for more information.
