Bob Arum To Boxing Fans: ‘Ignore’ Previous Verdict On PacBradley Bout

MANILA, Philippines - Top Rank CEO Bob Arum urges fans to keep the faith in boxing despite the seemingly questionable verdict on the Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley match early this month.

"Don't let two, or three scorecards, that are totally ludicrous cause you to lose faith in boxing," he directed to boxing fans in a phone interview on "Unang Hirit" Friday.

Arum's statement came right on the heels of the World Boxing Organization's review and "re-scoring" of the June 9 fight of the two boxers. The five-panel, internationally-renowned judges tapped by the WBO unanimously named Pacquiao as winner of the match.

To this, Arum stressed that long before the WBO's investigation result came out "Everybody [already] knows who won that fight, and that was overwhelmingly Manny Pacquiao."

He suggested for fans to "ignore" the verdict of judges C.J. Ross, Duane Ford - who scored for Bradley 115-113 over Pacquiao-and that of Jerry Roth's.

Despite the judges' unanimous decision, as per WBO's rules, the results of the match "will not be overturned." Instead, it can only "authorize" a rematch between Pacquiao and Bradley, which was already a given as stipulated on Bradley's contract even prior to his win against the Sarangani representative.

Arum said he will confer with Pacquiao about the rematch when the latter returns to the US early next week.

"I don't know I have yet to see him face-to-face. I've seen reports from the Philippines but Manny, to his credit, was engaged in flood relief and when he comes to the US, I wanna talk to him and have him give me the direction as to where it goes," he related.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao shared in a separate "UH" report that despite the findings of the investigation, he has no intention of reclaiming the Welterweight belt from Bradley since "hindi naman kasalanan ni Bradley din 'yon eh."

"Na kay Bradley kung ibigay niya 'yung belt, [pero sa akin] hindi ko rin naman tatanggapin. Bakante nalang ['yung position]," said Pacman.

The pound-for-pound king was nevertheless grateful that the "truth" as to the "true winner" during the fight between him and Bradley was unveiled.

"Salamat sa imbestigasyon na ginawa ng WBO at ng Nevada State Athletic Commission at naibalik 'yung tiwala ng mga tao sa boxing," he said.
