"Bourne Legacy" bears sequel

20 Sep – "The Bourne Legacy" may have conveyed the impression of being a film flop next to its early predecessor, "The Bourne Identity", but that is not stopping Universal Pictures from commissioning more sequels.

NBC Universal's CEO Steve Burke recently confirmed a follow-up to the Tony Gilroy's film as reported by The Hollywood Reporter and rumours have it that the next instalment may bring together Jeremy Renner's Aaron Cross and Matt Damon's Jason Bourne.

Plans for the sequel were announced during the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2012 Media, Communications & Entertainment conference, where Burke also revealed that they will be focusing on building film franchises and producing more animated films as part of ensuring the industry's income growth.

As such, "The Bourne Legacy" is not the only film that will be getting a sequel, but also Seth MacFarlane's feature-length directorial debut "Ted", which the team intends to work on "as soon as we can", as said by Burke himself in the conference. The comedy film became a worldwide hit with a surprising collection of US$394 million (RM1.2 billion), despite being made with a budget of around US$50 million (RM153 million).

The studio, which currently has a policy of releasing one animated film in approximately every 18 months, is setting a new goal of two animated features a year, following the success of "Despicable Me".
