Brighton car crash: Man, 32, arrested after three men mowed down by vehicle following fight

Police in Brighton arrested a 32-year-old man on Sunday morning after three men were mown down by a car on the seafront.

Officers were called to Marine Parade shortly after 5.20am on Sunday after a report of a large group of people fighting with weapons.

A number of the group are believed to have jumped into a car as police arrived at the scene, with the vehicle then ploughing into three men involved in the altercation.

A man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and the three men were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, two with serious head injuries.

The 32-year-old remains in custody. The vehicle was later found abandoned.

The Marine Parade has been closed from the pier roundabout and forensic officers are still on the scene.

Detective Inspector Chris Thompson said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen the incident or has any information about it to come forward.

“Marine Parade is currently closed between the pier roundabout and Camelford Street while we carry out enquiries and I would like to thank the public for their patience.”
