BRT groundbreaking moved to February 24

THE availability of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has affected the scheduled groundbreaking ceremony of the long-overdue Cebu Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, as it was moved again to February 24, 2023.

The Cebu City Government, through the Public Information Office, announced on January 11 that the BRT's package 1 groundbreaking will happen on February 2 with the presence of Marcos Jr.

In a press conference on Monday, January 24, however, the City's BRT project overseer Engr. Roberto Varquez said that another schedule has been set, but this is still tentative since the schedule of the President has to be finalized.

Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of the committee on infrastructure, told SunStar Cebu on Tuesday, January 24, that all preparations for the groundbreaking ceremony are already in place and they are just waiting for the final schedule.

The civil works for package 1 of the projects cover the route from Capitol through Osmeña Blvd. and going to Cebu South Bus Terminal on N. Bacalso Ave.

Paul Gotiong of the Cebu City Transportation Office said Tuesday that while the civil works are ongoing, there will be no traffic rerouting along the route. (IRT)
