CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga - The Central Luzon Office of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here has approved the release of at least P35 million to intensify the reforestation programs in the region, DENR director for Central Luzon Maximo Dichoso said Wednesday.
Dichoso said the funds would be used for reforestation efforts of denuded forestlands and watersheds in the region, particularly in Pampanga.
"This program aims to further increase the forest cover of the region as primary shield against strong typhoons and flooding," he said.
He added that DENR efforts now focus on building climate resilient communities and implementing climate-smart environmental programs.
The DENR also aims to rehabilitate until 2022 at least 44,000 hectares of denuded forestlands at the Pantabangan-Carranglan Watershed in Nueva Ecija through the 10-year Forest Management Program (FMP) supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica). (Mark Manuel)
