The IBACM Bukidnon Cowboys pulled off a 61-58 stunner over the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, thanks to Jayvee Pascua, who sank the game-winning three-pointer with under a second remaining in overtime in a thrilling game in the Pilipinas Super League 21-Under VisMin Leg on a rainy Thursday night at the Cordova Sports Complex.
The heroic three-pointer was redemption of sorts for Pascua, who committed a turnover late in regulation that opened the door for Consolacion’s Matt Flores to sink a free-throw with five seconds left to tie the game at 49-all and send it to overtime.
The two teams went back and forth but the nerve-wracking match remained tied at 58-all after a bucket by Flores with 22 seconds to go. However, the Cowboys had the last say as Pascua received a pass on the left wing and without hesitation, rose up and sank the booming triple to put them up by three.
With the Sarok Weavers having no timeouts left, Paolo Dalumpines was forced to throw up a hail Mary from halfcourt that hit the board as time expired, giving Bukidnon the incredible win.
Ivo Salarda had a monster double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds to go with four steals to help the Cowboys force a three-way tie at the top of the standings. Bukidnon, Consolacion, and Davao Occidental all have similar 5-1 records.
Pascua had 11 points and nine boards, while Raul Gentallan added 10 markers.
Flores led Consolacion with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
In the day’s other game, the Asturias Corn Ranchers barged into the win column with a 78-66 win over the OCCCI Ormoc Sheermasters.
Juhan Torion, Aeron Aparicio, and AJ Sacayan had 12 points each to lift the Corn Ranchers’ win-loss record to 1-4.
Ormoc dropped to 2-3. The loss spoiled the near-triple-double performance of Kobe Palencia who had 17 points, an incredible nine steals, and eight rebounds.
