Caindec suggests license revocation of driver who hit student in Lapu

LAND Transportation Office (LTO)-Central Visayas Director Victor Caindec has recommended for the revocation of license of SUV driver who hit a 13-year-old student in a pedestrian lane in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City on Tuesday afternoon, November 15, 2022.

This, after Caindec found out that Dario Labito, driver of sports utility vehicle (SUV), has eight traffic violations based on the records of LTO.

Based on a CCTV footage that later went viral on social media, the student was crossing on a pedestrian lane when he was hit by Labito.

Caindec said Labito already received a subpoena on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, for him to appear in the investigation.

Labito was given 72 hours or until November 19 after he received the subpoena to answer the allegations against him.

Caindec said Labito, who hails from Bohol but currently resides in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, got his driver’s license in Luzon.

"I am inclined to recommend the revocation of his driver's license based on the traffic records of the driver," the LTO regional head said.

Under Section 27 of Republic Act 4136, only the LTO chief can suspend or revoke the driver's license. (PAC, TPT)
