Phoenix Super LPG’s controversial forward Calvin Abueva inched closer to making a return to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) after the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) disclosed that he only needs to complete a few more requirements to have his professional basketball license reinstated.
GAB chairman Baham Mitra divulged that Abueva needs to go through a seminar on The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of a Professional Athlete. Abueva also needs to sign a document that states he will abide by it. Lastly, Abueva must also go through a drug test, which is a mandatory requirement for all of the country’s professional athletes.
The decision came to be after Abueva had a talk with representatives of GAB before heading off to the Clark Freezone in Pampanga to join Phoenix in the PBA “bubble.”
This step is a crucial one for Abueva and his bid to have his indefinite ban from the PBA lifted. It’s been 15 months since the man known as “The Beast” has played in the PBA after he was given the severe sanction for consecutive unsportsmanlike incidents in the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup. (JNP)
