A POLICE officer got injured after his motorcycle crashed into a slow-moving dump truck in Pilar town in Camotes Island, Cebu on Saturday morning, June 18, 2022.

Patrolman Clister Sumaoy, who is assigned at the island town’s local police station, sustained several injuries, including burns, following the accident.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Staff Sergeant Julius Navarro, the town police’s chief investigator, said that Sumaoy was on board his government-issued motorcycle and was on his way back to the police station after doing Police Community Relations (PCR) work when suddenly lost control of his bike and crashed at a dump truck.

A witness told police that Sumaoy may have lost control of the motorcycle as he was driving too fast just before the accident.

As a result, Sumaoy was pinned under the truck along with his motorcycle.

The crude oil tank of the dump truck also bore a hole, which was possibly hit by a blunt object believed to be from the motorcycle, which ignited a fire and caused the truck to burn.

Sumaoy was immediately transported to a hospital in Ormoc City, which was nearest to Camotes Island, for treatment.
