Two people found themselves locked in a library after the car they were in ploughed through its wall, wreaking havoc.

Firefighters were called to the scene of the devastation just after 11am on Sunday (17 October).

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said a road traffic collision in a car park had led to a car going through the wall of the library.

Two people who were in the car managed to get out, but then found themselves locked in the library, it said.

The incident was then handed over to Hampshire Constabulary, the service said.

It's not the first time shocking pictures have shown a car embedded in the side of a building.

In April, a house in West Sussex was left with a huge hole in the living room wall after a Seat Leon smashed into it after hitting a lamppost.

The 45-year-old woman driver, who was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and criminal damage recklessly endangering life at the time, was taken to hospital as a precaution and later discharged.
