BUTUAN CITY --- Products from the Caraga region are now recognized in the international scene as 10 regional food companies, which brought their respective products were cited by world's food firms in the recent 7th Sabah International Expo 2012 held at the Sultera Harbour Resort, in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.
Officials of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-13) said that these products recognized by the international business community will spur the economic prosperity in this fastest-growing region in Southern Philippines.
At the international food expo, food processors from this region that brought their respective products were all sold in cash and several booked orders, including one from a Malaysian institutional buyer, are already in the pipeline.
These products include bottled sardines, lemon grass capsule, oil, hydrosol and spray, dried mangoes, istaring (carlan) and camote crisps, nut crackle, durian candy, noodles, pastillas, roasted corn brew, baked products such as biscocho, patatas, cookies and otap, and coco sugar.
Interestingly, another Caraga food processor also sold their goat milk's soap.
The Caraga region delegation's creative talent was also prominently showcased and noted when they won as the expo's second runner up in the best dressed booth category among foreign exhibitors from more than 20 countries.
"Our products are already in the global competition," said in unison Regional Development Council Chair Gov. Sol F. Matugas of Surigao del Norte and Region Xlll DTI Regional Director Brielgo O. Pagaran.
Along with DTI officials, the Caraga region food firms who showed their products in that food expo were from Butuan City namely, Art Tribe Food and Crafts, DLY Food Products, DY Regis Food Products, Joy Table Sauce, Marjeck Food Products, MEMZ Food Products, MJ's Baked Delights and Mrs. T's Fruitilicious; and two firms from Agusan del Sur, Sunrise Corn Coffee and Buena Palma Corporation.
The Sabah International Expo or SIE is Sabah's premier trade fair organized biennially since 2000. Since its inception, SIE has become one of the largest and most successful trade events in BIMP-EAGA (Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines - East Asean Growth Area).
DTI-13 officials also assisted the Caraga region food exhibitors who also actually represented the Mindanao delegation for this BIMP-EAGA trade event.
