Talented Cebuano big man Carl Tamayo has been called up to join the Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team once again for the fourth window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Talisay City was part of the initial set of names that were disclosed by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) spokesperson Sonny Barrios on Tuesday, who will comprise the pool of players for the upcoming window.

Joining the University of the Philippines star are La Salle ace Kevin Quiambao and Japan B.League mainstays Kiefer Ravena, Thirdy Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks, and Dwight Ramos. Current free agent, Francis Lopez is also in the pool.

The team’s naturalized player will be Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz.

Barrios said they will hold off on announcing the rest of the pool until the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals concludes.

“Di muna na natin rerelease yung pool until after the semifinals para hindi madistract yung mga lumalaro pa,” Barrios said during his appearance on the Philippine Sportswriters Association online forum.

“Yung PBA players ang nakakarami sa pool na tinitignan. Yan yung sa ngayon ang pinagtutuunan ng pansin,” he added.

Even though the Gilas is already assured a spot in the World Cup, the team remains under pressure to come up with victories after their lackluster showing in the recent Southeast Asian Games and the FIBA Asia Cup.

The Gilas are set to take on Lebanon on August 25 and then, Saudi Arabia on the 29th.
