Castillano new Comelec Central Visayas regional director

PROVINCIAL Election Supervisor (PES) Lionel Marco Castillano has been appointed as the acting regional director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Central Visayas office.

Castillano replaced lawyer Rafael Olaño.

Castillano promised on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, that with his new appointment, he can now bring their services closer to the people.

From Dec. 12 until Jan. 31, 2023, election officers will be conducting a voter’s education apart from the satellite registration as part of their preparation for the upcoming Sangguniang Kabataan and Barangay Elections on Oct. 30, 2023.

They will also hold a special registration for persons deprived of liberty, senior citizens, persons with disability and pregnant women.

Castillano advised the senior citizens, especially those who are having difficulty going upstairs where their polling precincts are situated, to update their voters registration so they can arrange for a separate polling center for them.

“It is very necessary to let the people understand not only about their rights to vote but also about their responsibility as voters,” Castillano said.

Castillano assumed his new position last Nov. 28 upon the approval of Comelec chairman George Garcia.

He will be replaced by Cebu City South District election officer, lawyer Edwin Cadungog, while Comelec Regional Election Attorney Ferdinand Gujilde will fill in the position left by Cadungog.

Currently, the Comelec regional office is busy preparing the equipment for the registration as well as printing voters registration forms and holding a refresher course for election officers. (PAC / TPT)
