Catalan breaks vs. Sawada

ROBIN Catalan bowed down to Japanese Ryuto Sawada with first round rear-naked choke submission in ONE Championship: “Unbreakable III” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium last Feb. 5, 2020.

Sawada sank in a deep rear-naked-choke that forced Catalan to tap in the 4:19 mark.

Sawada showcased his impressive ground skills. Catalan defended a couple of Sawada’s submssion attempts well at first. However, the Japanese grappler was relentless with his attempts and finally found Catalan’s neck before the end of the round.

Catalan dropped to 10-7 and is now 5-5 in the ONE Championship cage. Sawada, on the other hand, improved to 14-5-1 and won back-to-back fights.

In the main event, No. 5 rated straweight Stamp Fairtex (5-1) suffered her first career loss in MMA after losing to Alyona Rassohyna (13-4).

In the undercard, Fabricio Andrade (5-2) beat No. 2 rated bantamweight Shoko Sato (35-17-3), Kang Jo Won (5-0) stopped Mehdi Barghi (4-4), Ahmed Mujtaba (8-2) knocked out Rahul Raju (7-6) in the opening round and Tial Thang (3-0) stopped Paulus Lumihi (7-6). (EKA)
