CATS in heat are reportedly to blame for the fire that struck Villalon Drive, Sitio Panaghiusa in Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City on Sunday afternoon, September 18, 2022.

Beltran Gador, the owner of the house where the fire started, told SunStar Cebu that he and his family were on their way out when he noticed two cats caterwauling on the roof of his house.

Moments later, he said he noticed a spark from a wire entering his house and then flames erupting inside.

The fire quickly spread to neighboring houses.

According to Gador, the two cats did not belong to them.

Meanwhile, FO3 Fulbert Navarro, fire investigator of the Cebu City Fire Office, said he had no reason not to believe Gador, but he has yet to confirm the latter’s story.

Navarro said they received the alarm at 1:58 p.m. and raised it to first alarm at 2:01 p.m. The blaze was placed under control at 2:24 p.m. Fire out was declared four minutes later.

He said the fire razed 12 houses and damaged five others.

Damage to properties was pegged at P300,000.

No one was hurt or killed during the fire.

However, the Gadors lost one of their pet dogs that was trapped inside the house. Firefighters found the dog’s remains in the ashes.
