CBSAA, Ateneo de Cebu to clash for Cesafi Season 22 high school title

The City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers and the reigning champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles will clash for the title in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Season 22 high school basketball tournament after they hurdled their respective opponents in the semifinals on Tuesday night at the Cebu Coliseum.

CBSAA nipped the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers, 67-63, while Ateneo de Cebu withstood a gallant stand by the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters, 83-78, to forge what is expected to be an exciting finals showdown.

Game One of the best-of-three finals will be on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

The Trailblazers actually bested the Magis Eagles, 82-79, in their lone clash in the elimination round back on November 12. In that game, CBSAA trailed by double-digits with six minutes to go before mounting an incredible comeback down the stretch to pick up the win.

CBSAA’s win over UV pushed their remarkable winning streak to 10 games this season — a feat unmatched by any rookie team in the league’s 22-year history.

Meanwhile, the collegiate Final Four tips off on Thursday with the top-seeded UV Green Lancers taking on the fourth-ranked University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars at 5 p.m.

The second-seeded University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USPF) Panthers then battle the third-seed, the UC Webmasters, at 7 p.m.

UV and USP-F need only to win once to advance to the championship round.
