CCLEX to still accept cash on Oct. 1, continue dry run

On Oct. 1, those who don’t have radio frequency identification (RFID) stickers in their cars or motorcycles can still use the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), as the management has postponed the start of the implementation of the full cashless toll collection system at the bridge.

This will give motorists more time to get the RFID stickers on their vehicles, as well as to reload their RFID accounts.

Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC) had earlier announced that it would implement its full electronic toll collection system on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Allan Go Alfon, president and general manager of CCLEC, said they decided to extend the installation of stickers until further notice following the requests of some motorists.

Some 64,000 motorists use the CCLEX weekly.

“Because of clamor, calls, requests from motorists all over, we decided late yesterday to extend the ongoing dry run that started Sept. 1 and supposedly ends tomorrow, Oct. 1,” Alfon said in a press conference Friday, Sept. 30, 2022 at the CCLEX.

He said they will announce in the coming days when the dry run will end.

At present, there is one toll booth that will accommodate motorcycles and another toll booth for cars, while another two toll gates will serve vehicles with RFID stickers.

Mareon Therese Miole, operations manager of CCLEC, said more than 90,000 cars, of which 20 percent are motorcycles, are already equipped with RFID stickers and 40 percent of those vehicles with RFID stickers have already availed themselves of the cashless transactions at the bridge.

The CCLEC has 110,000 RFID stickers still available for installation.

Alfon said they are also contemplating allowing the use of the RFID stickers in other expressways under Metro Pacific Tollways such as in Luzon.

The installation of stickers is free of charge.

Motorists can have their CCLEX RFID installed at the CCLEX Customer Service Centers located on both sides of the expressway near the Toll Plaza. To speed up transactions, motorists are advised to register ahead at cclex.com.ph so they can just present their registration QR Code to the installer.

At the same service centers, motorists can also reload via cash, debit card, credit card, Maya and GCash.

CCLEX users can also use the MPT DriveHub app to register or link their RFID accounts, as well as load and reload their RFID accounts, and monitor their RFID load in real time.

Alfon said around 8,000 cars and motorcycles pass by CCLEX daily during the weekdays and 12,000 daily on weekends.

Alfon said the local governments of Cebu City and Cordova will each get a one percent share of the total revenue.

He said, however, that the two local government units have not yet received their share as the dry run is still ongoing and they still have to audit their proceeds.(PAC, TPT)
