CCPO to increase police visibility in big stores, churches, places of entertainment as Christmas nears

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will deploy police personnel in areas where people gather as Christmas approaches.

CCPO Director Lieutenant Ireneo Dalogdog said he already informed all station commanders to mobilize their men for the visible police patrol in crime-prone areas in preparation for the influx of visitors.

“As always we anticipate crime to increase during this period. Our station commanders already know they have to be ready to deploy their personnel anytime. However, we will increase police presence in places where people gather, such as big stores, churches and places of entertainment,” he said in Cebuano.

Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for administration of the CCPO, said they will adjust their deployment based on what they learned after studying past crime trends.

He said they will coordinate with their counterparts in the intelligence community to help monitor notable criminals from other parts of the Visayas and Mindanao who are expected to take advantage of the situation.

He said they continue to coordinate with the Muslim community to monitor newcomers whose behavior is suspicious.

“Every time there are big events, our intel community keeps on working and monitoring not only for the usual crimes but to expect other kinds of crime,” Parilla said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

He said they won’t ask for reinforcement from the Police Regional Office Central Visayas just yet.

Once the Misa de Gallo starts, however, he said they will assess the situation if the CCPO’s one thousand plus personnel will be enough to secure the city. (AYB, PJB)
