CEBU’S first patient who tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) was scheduled for discharge from the private hospital in Mandaue City where he was admitted.
Department of Health (DOH) 7 Director Jaime Bernadas said on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, his office was just waiting for the repeat examination before the patient would be cleared to go home.
The first Covid-19 patient in Cebu is still confined in Chong Hua Hospital in Mandaue City. The DOH central office revealed last March 18 that the first positive case of Covid-19 was a 65-year-old Filipino male.
DOH 7-Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit head Shelbay Blanco said recovering Covid-19 patients will undergo two tests, including the repeat examination. The tests must yield negative results before the patients are cleared to go home.
Blanco said the discharged Covid-19 patients are not required to undergo home quarantine for 14 days.
The Covid-19 patients who have recovered and show no signs of the disease may be advised for discharge to decongest hospitals. However, they are required to undergo 14-day home quarantine while waiting for the results of the final tests and barangay health response unit personnel are tasked to monitor them, said Blanco. (WBS)
