THE Cebu City Government will implement a massive city-wide drainage declogging as part of its campaign against flooding during heavy rains.

Jerone Castillo, special assistant of Mayor Michael Rama, said Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, that former Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) secretary Roy Cimatu will lead the “gubat sa baha” (war against flood).

Castillo said public and private sectors will work hand-in-hand during the activity, which will be held on Sept. 17, 2022.

He cited Cimatu’s expertise during the latter’s stint as DENR secretary, especially the work Cimatu did to transform and beautify different places like Boracay Island, Manila Bay and Marikina River.

“With his experience... I think we can see a brighter future in solving our flooding problem,” Castillo said.

The City Government will consolidate the flood control and drainage master plan of the Department of Public Works and Highways 7, the City’s Department of Engineering and Public Works and the City Planning and Development Office.

Once this is unified, Castillo said Cimatu will oversee the implementation. (IRT)
